Ambassador Awards: Congratulations to our 20162017 Ambassador Award Recipients! This year’s recipients are Jillian Simms, brandy Tutt, and Brcky Rahlfs.

Clinic Happenings from Nurse Jean:

  • Illness we have seen this week: Strep Throat – sore throat, nausea, headache, with/without fever. Children must be fever free for 24 hours without the aid of Tylenol or Motrin prior to returning to school.
  • Friendly Reminders from Nurse Jean: Please encourage your child to wash their hands often throughout the day. It is one of the best ways to prevent illness.

Holiday Assistance: Different organizations reach out to Powell Elementary to assist our students and families with items for the holidays. Please let us know if you would welcome assistance and would be willing for Mrs. Nixon, our counselor, to call or email you if an organization volunteers to donate this year. In the past we have had organizations offer to donate food, clothing, and toys to our families in need. If you are interested in receiving assistance, please email Mrs. Nixon at or call her at 9367091700.


Children in Santa’s Dreams: The CISD Police Department would like to invite you to help us make a child’s dream come true. We will be collecting new, unwrapped gifts for boys and girls of all ages November 14 – December 5. these gifts will be wrapped and given to families who might not otherwise have a wonderful Christmas without you.

Boosterthon: Greetings Powell Elementary Parents! We are excited to be hosting Boosterthon Fun Run for the 7th time to help us achieve our fundraising goals for the year. The Boosterthon Run Run is a fun, nine day character fitness and leadership program that combines world class and engaging character content with a fundraising event for our school. This year we are raising funds for playground repairs, tutoring, and much more. Thank you ahead of time for your support.



Parents and Community Partners, we need your help! Each student will be provided with a FREE custom Powell Elementary tshirt to wear the day of the Fun Run event. This is at no cost to the students. We are hoping to partner with community businesses to offset the costs of the shirts. We need your help getting the word out. If you know of or are part of a business that would like to help sponsor our tshirts, please see the back of this letter for a sample of the tshirts. We need a commitment from all sponsors by December 16, 2016 in order to have the business logos printed on the shirts.

PTO News: Yearbooks are now on sale for $30. Price includes one line of personalization with up to 4 icons. Also, new this year you can may choose from several styles of decorative crests or monograms. Both of these are also included in the price of the yearbook for the month of December only. Our Lost and Found continues to grow. Jackets, lunch boxes, water bottles, roller blades, hair accessories, helmet, and more! Please have your children collect their lost items from the racks and box located in the Activity room. All items remaining will be donated the week of Christmas break.

Polar Express: College Park Texas Association of Future Educators Present Polar Express Fun Night December 9th, 2016 from 68 p.m. at College Park High School. Admission is $10 and includes crafts, games, snacks and a picture with Santa. Please see the attached flier for more information.

Nominations for Gifted and Talented Testing: Nominations open October 3, 2016 for Conroe ISD’s Gifted and Talented program. Nominations can be made by the parents and/or teachers. All students can be nominated for the GT screener. However, it is recommended that parents of Kindergarten and 1st grade students wait until 2nd grade. All students in 2nd grade will take the first part of the GT screener in October. Nominations will be accepted through December 16, 2016, and testing will take place in February.
