Note from Mrs. Garrison: Happy New Year to all of our Powell families! We hope you have a spectacular 2017!

 

School Report Card: Attached you will find a copy of the State of Texas 2015 – 16 School Report Card for Colin Powell Elementary. The report provides information concerning student performance on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR), as well as information on student enrollment, class size averages, and financial expenditures.

 

Clinic Happenings from Nurse Jean:

  • Illness we have seen this week: Flu-like symptoms – We have not had a confirmed diagnosis of the flu, but had several students with flu like symptoms this week. Symptoms include: fever, sore throat, congestion, cough, and headache.
  • Friendly Reminders from Nurse Jean: Please encourage your child to wash their hands throughout the day. It is one of the best ways to prevent illness.

CISD Western Art Show: The CISD Western Art Show will be held Saturday, January 7th from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Oak Ridge High School 9th Grade Campus. Students representing Powell will be Gracie Derrick from Kindergarten; Breely Hobbs from 2nd grade; Maggie Walker, Augie Coffel, and Raheel Mansury form 3rd grade; and Gervon Viltz and Ashlyn Cuffe from 4th grade. We are very proud of our artistic students!

 

Boosterthon: Greetings Powell Elementary Parents! We are excited to be hosting the Boosterthon Fun Run for the 7th time to help us achieve our fundraising goals for the year. The Boosterthon Fun Run is a fun, nine-day character, fitness and leadership program that combines world-class and engaging character content with a fundraising event for our school. This year we are raising funds to go towards playground repairs, tutoring, and much more. Thank You ahead of time for your support!

 

ARE YOU ASSOCIATED WITH A LOCAL BUSINESS? SPONSOR OUR T-SHIRTS!

Parents and Community Partners, we need your help! Each student will be provided with a FREE custom Powell Elementary t-shirt to wear the day of the Fun Run event. This is at no cost to the students. we are hoping to partner with community businesses to off-set the cost of the shirts. We need a commitment from all sponsors by December 16, 2016 in order to have the business logos printed on the shirts.

PTO News: Yearbooks are now on sale for $35. Any remaining books will be sold for $40 on a first come first serve basis the morning of autograph day in May. Simply go to the Powell PTO website (www.powellpto.org) and click on the yearbook icon to order your book. Questions – contact Marilyn Koester at yearbook@powellpto.org.

 

Please send kindergarten holiday program pictures, 1st grade Celebrations Around the World pictures, and 4th grade choir program pictures to the yearbook via the replay it app on your mobile device or via www.replayit.com.
