2017-2018 School Calendar: The CISD School Board approved a calendar this week for the upcoming school year. Please note the differences from our current calendar such as an earlier start date, an October holiday, two and half week winter break, early release at the end of each grading period and more even distribution of days in each semester. We wanted to make you aware of this information as soon as possible to assist you in your summer and holiday planning. Please see the attached calendar.
Boosterthon: Greetings Powell Elementary Parents! We are excited to be hosting the Boosterthon Fun Run for the 7th time to help us achieve our fundraising goals for the year. The Boosterthon Fun Run is a fun, nine-day character, fitness and leadership program that combines world-class and engaging character content with a fundraising event for our school. This year we are raising funds for playground repairs, tutoring, and much more. Thank you ahead of time for your support.
Sci Tech Fair: You are invited to the SciTech 2017 Elementary Science Festival Saturday, February 4th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Students from all of the surrounding elementary schools will present hands on science lessons. Visitors will be able to actively participate in the lessons and take something away from each booth. Everyone is invited to attend this exciting event and it is FREE! See attachment for more information.
Clinic Happenings from Nurse Jean:
- Illness we have seen this week: Flu A and Flu B – cough, congestion, with/without vomiting, body aches, fever. Strep Throat – with/without sore throat, with/without fever, with/without nausea. Stomach virus – without fever nausea, with/without vomiting, with/without diarrhea.
- Friendly Reminders from Nurse Jean: Please make sure to notify the school if there is a change in contact information. It is important we have updated information in the event of an emergency.

KIDS running for KIDS: This one mile run is a timed event and all proceeds benefit CISD Read for a better life imitative. The race will be held on February 4th at 7:30 at Town Green Park. Mrs. Owens would like to get a Powell team together for this event. To register just go to www.KidsRunningForKids.com and use promo code KRKCISD17 to get a 50% discount. Every racer receives a finisher medal, and official race tech t-shirt and a drawstring swag bag. So sign up and let’s show our Powell pride!
PTO News: PTO has the following positions open for next school year: President, VP of Programs, VP of Membership, Carnival Chairperson, Landscape Chairperson, Popcorn Chairperson, Room Mom Liaison, and Yearbook Editor. Yearbooks are now on sale for $35. Last day to purchase yearbooks online is Tuesday, January 31. Simply go to the Powell PTO website (www.powellpto.org) and click on the yearbook icon to order your book. Any remaining books will be sold for $40 on a first come first serve basis the morning of autograph day in May. Wondering if you have already ordered? Save the Date: Donuts with Divas and our Spring Carnival are going back to the 80’s! Totally awesome! Donuts with Divas will be on Friday, February 10th from 7:15 – 8:00 a.m. and our Spring Carnival will be held on Friday, April 21st. We can not wait to see you there!
