Note from Mrs. Garrison: Our return to school after the storm has gone very smoothly. We are overwhelmed at the generosity so many of you have shown in the wake of this disaster. Our Sign Up Genius clothing drive has been amazing. We will continue to add families to this drive as needs arise. Please continue to check the link if you would like to help. If you need assistance, please let us know.


Powell Gift Card Drive: We are collecting gift card donations (Visa/Mastercard, gas, fast food, clothing stores, and home improvement centers) at Powell. Gift cards will be distributed to families in our district affected by the flood. You can drop them off at our front desk. You will be asked to login the card but it will only take a second.


Free Lunch: All CISD schools will have free lunch for all students the month of September. All students eating lunch from the school will not be charged during the month of September. This will include only the meals – it does not include a al carte menu items.


Powell Sign Up Genius Clothing Drive: We have identified numerous families that need clothing assistance. We have been assigned families to assist. We have created a Signup Genius for our school and the link is listed below. New families have been added. The goal is to place new clothes in the hands of these individuals by the end of the week.

We need your help now! Please click on the link below. Select an item or items that you will purchase. Purchase the items (new) and return them to Powell with the ID number assigned. ID numbers can be found on the Sign Up Genius in green next to the item you sign up to donate. You can choose 1 item or as many as you would like.


Parent Information Night: Parent Information Night has been rescheduled for September 18. PPCD and Pre-K-2nd grade will meet in your child’s classroom at 5:30 p.m. Third and fourth grade will meet in your child’s classroom at 6:30 p.m.


College Park Homecoming Pep Rally Community Event: In lieu of the homecoming red wagon parade, College Park will be having a community pep rally for their homecoming Wednesday, September 13 at 6:00 p.m. at Woodforest Bank Stadium. We want everyone in our feeder to show their support for our community by being at the game! Each feeder school will be announced to show their school spirit. There will be gift card donation stations set up to collect gift cards if you would like to make a donation that night. Take a break from cleaning up or helping and join us in showing our Cavalier community spirit.


Progress Reports: Due to our weather delays, progress report dates have changed. Progress reports will go home September 22.


Arrival/Dismissal: Thank you for your patience as everyone learns our arrival and dismissal procedures. Our first concern is always the safety of our students. Here are a few reminders concerning arrival and dismissal.

  • Please say goodbye to your child at the front door and allow students to walk to class themselves.
  • Remain in your car during carline and allow staff to load or unload your child at the curb. Students may not enter a traffic lane to enter or exit a car.
  • Please display your carline sign with your child’s name written in bold marker on the passenger side dash or hanging from the rear view mirror.
  • Cars should stay in carline and do not pass other cars in line. Children cannot be dismissed from the porch to a parent who walks up.
  • Front Walker parents may meet their children at the corner of Cochran’s Crossing and N. Cochran’s Green Circle. A crossing guard will help them cross the street safely.
  • Please do not park in Cochran’s Green or along Cochran’s Crossing to walk your child in. CISD Police and Montgomery County Sherriff’s Office will be patrolling to prevent this.
  • Please do not let students out in parking lot in the mornings. It is not safe for them to walk across our carline traffic.


Parent Workshops: When you were growing up, where did you gain most of your information on difficult topics such as drugs and alcohol? Was it from your friends? Older siblings? Television? Your parents? When kids are uneasy about a topic, they may not look to their parents for information. In turn, they may seek answers elsewhere which may result in unreliable sources.

Come learn ways on how to open the lines of communication and talk to your kids from David Parmer MA. LPC. Mr. Parmer served as the CISD Crisis Counselor for 14 years, a grief and loss school specialist, trauma resolution therapist and runs his own practice as a licensed professional counselor here in The Woodlands. His presentations are informative and enlightening. We hope to see you there.

District Art Show: Every year Conroe ISD gathers some of the finest artwork done by its students to frame and display at our district’s administration building. This year’s art show will be September 9 at the Sadler Building in Conroe from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The following students will be representing Powell:

Gracie Derrick – 1st grade

Maggie Walker – 4th grade

Augustus Coffel – 4th grade

Raheel Mansury — 4th grade

Clinic Happenings from Nurse Jean: Welcome back Powell Panthers!

Friendly Reminders from Nurse Jean:

  • As a general rule, please remember to check your child for lice and nits (lice eggs) frequently.
  • Accidents and spills happen often, please send an extra change of clothing (including socks and underwear) with your child in their backpack. This applies to all grade level students.
  • Please remember any medication (including cough drops and Tylenol) must be brought to the clinic by a parent or guardian and checked in with clinic staff.

Library Volunteers: We had a WONDERFUL group of volunteers in the library last year, and we are excited about having another great year of help and support. Volunteers are essential to our library program because our librarian works alone without an aide. If you would like to volunteer in the Powell library, please fill out the online form at the following link.



Donuts with Dudes: Please save the date for Friday, September 22nd “Donuts with Dudes” from 7:15 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. Students can bring their favorite “Dude” with them to enjoy a donut, coffee and juice in our Gym. We can’t wait to see you there!


Parent Access: Please sign up for a Parent Access account (PAC) if you have not done so already. This account will allow you to receive announcements, newsletters, safety information, absence and tardy notifications and other important updates. Throughput the year, you can log in to view grades, report cards, discipline records, cafeteria accounts and STAAR scores. If you registered for an account last year, you will not need to re-register for an account this year. To register, please visit


Volunteer Background Check: All volunteers in our school must complete the CISD Volunteer Background Check. This includes classroom readers, party volunteers, field trip chaperones and event volunteers. You can complete the free background check here.


PTO News: Our first PTO meeting will be Tuesday, September 19th at 1:30 p.m. in the portable. Please join us and get to know fellow Powell parents and learn what PTO does for Powell. The Powell PTO depends on volunteers like you to help make the year a success. There are many ways to help throughout the year – big and small! Signing up does not commit you to anything. You will be added to our volunteer database where you will learn about the various ways you can help throughout the year.

Please remember to complete the Volunteer Background Check at the bottom of the page to be able to volunteer at our school!

PTO has the following positions available this year: VP of Membership, Carnival Co-Chairs, Silent Auction Chairperson, Room Mom Liaison, Spirit Store Coordinator and Staff Appreciation Chairperson.


Hoco Foam Fest: The College Park Hoco Foam Fest will be Saturday, September 9 at College Park High School. Hoco Foam Fest is a one mile fun run with an inflatable obstacle course and foamy dance party at the end. The event is open to students and parents from all feeder schools and the race will be separated into age groups. Twenty percent of proceeds will be donated to the Interfaith Food Pantry. Registration is open at http://www.cpspirit.comand will also be accepted the morning of the event. So mark your calendars and grab a friend for a sudsy good time!
