Early Dismissal: We have early dismissal Friday, October 6 at 12:10 p.m. District transportation will follow this schedule. Pre-K and PPCD programs will have an altered schedule.

P.M. Pre-K & PPCD 10:05 a.m. – 12:05 p.m.
Storybook Parade: Our Storybook Parade is Friday, October 6. Children are encouraged to dress up as a favorite story book character. Your child should bring the book that includes the character he/she is portraying. No ghosts, witches, or goblins please. Students will parade through the gym with their classes at 8:30 a.m. In an effort to keep children safe in our hallways and on our parade route, we ask that parents be seated in the gym by 8:25 a.m. For your convenience, please enter the building in the back through the gym doors. When the parade has ended, please exit the building through the back doors also. Parade guests will not be allowed in the hallways. If you need to come into the building after the parade, please enter through the front and follow the normal check-in procedures. We appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you.

- What’s going around: Stomach virus – with/without fever, vomiting
- Students must be fever free for 24 hours without the aid of Tylenol or Motrin in order to return to school

School Calendar: Our district has been experiencing some technical difficulties with our school calendars. The Powell calendar may be viewed on our school website but only in the weekly view. To view the school calendar you must visit powell.conroeisd.net, click on the calendar link at the top of the page, click on “View As” and choose weekly. You may then scroll through the calendar week by week.
Library Volunteers: We had a WONDERFUL group of volunteers in the library last year, and we are excited about having another great year of help and support. Volunteers are essential to our library program because our librarian works alone without an aide. Book Fair Volunteers: We are in need of volunteers for the book fair October 10-13. The book fair cannot operate without the help from parents. This is a really fun event for the students and earns money and books for the school library! PTO News: The Powell PTO depends on volunteers like you to help make the year a success. There are many ways to help throughout the year – big and small! Signing up does not commit you to anything. You will be added to our volunteer database where you will learn about the various ways you can help throughout the year.

Yearbooks on Sale: Powell yearbooks are now on sale! Currently, they are $30 and available at http://jostens.com/apps/store/customer/1242048/Powell-Elementary-School/ with free icons when you personalize your child’s yearbook. Lastly, 4th grade yearbook ads are on sale until November 30. Price is dependent on the size ad you purchase. Please visit http://www.jostens.com/yearbooks/yearbook-ads.html to submit your ad online. Please remember that ads are for 4th graders only.

Parent Workshop Series: Join us for our next parent workshop series, Cyber Safety at Colson Tough Elementary on October 26 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. The workshop is presented by The Conroe ISD Police and Technology department. Topics will include:
- Setting up passwords
- Setting up filters and permissions on home routers
- What to look for on your child’s phone & how to detect photo vaults
- Brief overview on the different types of apps and sites kids are using
- Privacy settings on various applications
Volunteer Background Check: All volunteers in our school must complete the CISD Volunteer Background Check. This includes classroom readers, party volunteers, field trip chaperones and event volunteers. You can complete the free background check here. https://apps.conroeisd.net/volunteer/
Parent Access: Please sign up for a Parent Access account (PAC) if you have not done so already. This account will allow you to recieve announcements, newsletters, safety information, absence and tardy notifications and other important updates. Throughout the year, you can log in to view grades, report cards, discipline records, cafeteria accounts and STAAR scores. CISD Coat Drive: Conroe ISD Police department is hosting its 15th annual Coats for Kids Drive. We will be accepting new or gently used (Clean) coats, hoodies, and sweaters on our campus October 2 – October 16. Items may be dropped off in the front office. During last year’s Coats for Kids drive, CISD Police collected and distributed 1400 coats, jackets and hoodies. Coats from this year’s drive will be ready for disbursement the week of October 30.
TWHS Highstepper Dance Clinic: The Woodlands High School Highsteppers are having a Dance clinic October 14 from 8:00a.m. – 12:00p.m. The camp will be held on TWHS campus and is open to children in grades K-8. Cost of the clinic is $60. Registration is open at www.twhshighsteppers.com
TWHS Fall Cheer Clinic: It is Football season and this is a great opportunity for your students to join in our spirit! This cheer clinic is for children 4 years old to 8th grade and will give these young athletes an opportunity to train and cheer alongside the TWHS cheer squad. Children will learn a cheer, a chant, a dance, will work on jumps and stunt skills and will get to perform with the JV cheerleaders at a TWHS football game. There will be a “SHOW OFF” after the clinic and your child will get to be in the middle of the pep rally. See the attached flyer for more information.
