Red Ribbon Week

Powell will be participating in Red Ribbon Week the week of October 23. Since 1995, the Red Ribbon Campaign has united students and communities to take a visible stand against drugs. This is a great opportunity to talk to your children about how harmful drugs can be. The daily dress up themes serve to raise awareness of the importance of living a drug-free life. The themes for the week are as follows:

Monday – Red-y to live a drug free life – wear red

Tuesday – Hats off to a drug free life – wear a hat to school

Wednesday – Sock it to drugs – wear mismatched or crazy socks

Thursday – Team up against drugs – wear a team shirt

Friday – Stomp out drugs and bullies – wear tennis shoes to school and join us for walk to school day

Fundraiser Contest

PTO has announced a contest for our school fundraiser. The class with the most sales will be awarded a pizza party at school. The teacher of that class will receive tickets to the Junior League Holiday Market. Let’s see who wins! Good Luck, Panthers!

Walk to School Day

On October 27th Colin Powell Elementary will be participating in International Walk to School Day. The focus of the day is to encourage our students to get out of the car and onto the sidewalks! This is a great event and encourages more physical activity, more family involvement and a better cleaner environment for all of us! For those students who live too far to walk, we will have two places where we will meet as a group and walk to school. Mrs. Owens will meet a group at Capstone Park and Mr. Kirbo will meet a group at Cat’s Cradle and Research Forest across from The Woodlands High School. Both groups will meet around 7:20 and leave to walk to school at 7:30. So put October 27th on your calendars and we will see you on the path!

Clinic Happenings from Nurse Jean

Friendly Reminders from Nurse Jean:

  • Accidents and spills happen often. Please send an extra change of clothing (including underwear and socks) in your child’s backpack. We have a limited supply in the clinic.
  • As a general rule, please remember to periodically check your child for lice and nits (lice eggs).

Please do not hesitate to call the clinic if you have any questions. Our direct number is 936-709-1709.

Save the Date

Fall fundraiser delivery is Friday, December 1st from 5:00 – 7:30 p.m. in the gym. If you are unable to come please send a friend, neighbor or relative to pick up your items. ALL ITEMS NOT PICKED UP WILL BE CONSIDERED A DONATION. After you pick up your fundraiser items come join us for our food truck frenzy. We will have several food trucks outside Powell on the bus ramp for you to enjoy. A portion of all sales will be donated back to the school. Hope to see you there!

PTO News

The Powell PTO depends on volunteers like you to help make the year a success. There are many ways to help throughout the year – big and small! Signing up does not commit you to anything. You will be added to our volunteer database where you will learn about the various ways you can help throughout the year.

Please remember to complete the Volunteer Background Check at the bottom of the page to be able to volunteer at our school!

PTO has the following positions available this year: VP of Membership, Carnival Co-Chairs, Silent Auction Chairperson, Room Mom Liaison, Spirit Store Coordinator and Staff Appreciation Chairperson.

Volunteer Background Check

All volunteers in our school must complete the CISD Volunteer Background Check. This includes classroom readers, party volunteers, field trip chaperones and event volunteers.

Parent Access

Please sign up for a Parent Access account (PAC) if you have not done so already. This account will allow you to receive announcements, newsletters, safety information, absence and tardy notifications and other important updates. Throughout the year, you can log in to view grades, report cards, discipline records, cafeteria accounts and STAAR scores. If you registered for an account last year, you will not need to re-register for an account this year.
