Fundraiser Pickup and Food Truck Frenzy
Fall fundraiser delivery is Friday, December 1st from 5-7:30 p.m. in the gym. If you are unable to come please send a friend, neighbor or relative to pick up your items. ALL ITEMS NOT PICKED UP WILL BE CONSIDERED A DONATION. After you pick up your fundraiser items come join us for our food truck frenzy. We will have several food trucks outside Powell on the bus ramp for you to enjoy including Cousins Maine Lobster, 006 Pizza, Kona Ice and Julia’s Organic Kitchen. A portion of all sales will be donated back to the school. Hope to see you there!
CISD will be celebrating “Generation Texas” throughout the school district. Generation Texas is about the belief that all Texas students belong on the path to education beyond high school! During this week we emphasize the wonderful possibilities for your child’s future. We encourage all students to wear a college shirt to school on Tuesday, November 28.
Clinic Happenings from Nurse Jean
Friendly Reminders from Nurse Jean:
- What’s going around: We have had several cases of the flu virus reported over the last few weeks. It is not too late to receive the flue vaccine!
- Students must be fever free (less than 100.0) for 25 hours without the aid of Tylenol or Motrin prior to returning to school.
Please do not hesitate to call the clinic if you have any questions. Our direct number is 936-709-1709.
Children in Santa’s Dreams
The CISD Police Department would like to invite you to help them make a child’s dream come true. On Wednesday, November 15th, the CISD Police will start collecting new unwrapped gifts. These gifts will be given to families who, without our support, may not otherwise have a wonderful Christmas. There will be a drop-off bin in the Powell Front Office. All gift donations should be made by Friday, December 8 to ensure gifts are delivered in time.
Different organizations reach out to Powell Elementary to assist our students and families with items for the holidays. Please let us know if you would welcome assistance and would be willing for Mrs. Nixon, our counselor, to call or email you if an organization volunteers to donate this year. In the past we have had organizations offer to donate food, clothing, and toys to our families in need. If you are interested in receiving assistance, please email Mrs. Nixon at email@example.com or call her at 936-709-1700.
Note from the Attendance Clerk
We are having an increase in unexcused absences and need your help to make sure this trend does not continue. Please make sure you are contacting the school every day your child is absent. Contact can be made by phone 936-709-1700, or by email to our attendance clerk at firstname.lastname@example.org with the reason for the student’s absence. Without correspondence your child’s absence will be marked as unexcused.
If your child sees a physician, we ask that you bring in a doctor’s note upon your child’s return to school. If you are interested in more information about Conroe ISD attendance guidelines, please refer to the Elementary School Handbook, pages 15-17.

Nominations for Gifted & Talented Testing
Nominations opened October 2, 2017 for Conroe ISD’s Gifted and Talented program. Nominations can be made by the parents and/or teachers. All students can be nominated for the GT screener. However, it is recommended that parents of Kindergarten and 1st grade students wait until 2nd grade. Nominations will be accepted through December 20, 2017, and testing will be on campus in February with results coming back to us in May. The nomination form can be sent to school with your child or emailed to the Assistant Principal, Sarah Radford, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Powell PTO depends on volunteers like you to help make the year a success. There are many ways to help throughout the year – big and small! Signing up does not commit you to anything. You will be added to our volunteer database where you will learn about the various ways you can help throughout the year.
Please remember to complete the Volunteer Background Check at the bottom of the page to be able to volunteer at our school!
PTO has the following positions available this year: VP of Membership, Carnival Co-Chairs, Silent Auction Chairperson, Room Mom Liaison, Spirit Store Coordinator and Staff Appreciation Chairperson.
Volunteer Background Check
All volunteers in our school must complete the CISD Volunteer Background Check. This includes classroom readers, party volunteers, field trip chaperones and event volunteers. You can complete the free background check here
Please sign up for a Parent Access account (PAC) if you have not done so already. This account will allow you to receive announcements, newsletters, safety information, absence and tardy notifications and other important updates. Throughout the year, you can log in to view grade, report cards, discipline records, cafeteria accounts, and STAAR scores. If you registered for an account last year, you will not need to re-register for an account this year.
Due to problems with our online school calendar, we are including a list of upcoming events.
