Clinic Happenings from Nurse Jean
Friendly Reminders from Nurse Jean:
- What going around: stomach virus with vomiting, without fever
- Please make sure your contact information is current with the school. Also, please make sure you have an emergency contact listed in the event we are unable to reach you.
Please do not hesitate to call the clinic if you have any questions. Our direct number is 936-709-1709.
Children in Santa’s Dreams:
The CISD Police Department would like to invite you to help them make a child’s dream come true. On Wednesday, November 15th, the CISD Police will start collecting new unwrapped gifts. These gifts will be given to families who, without our support, may not otherwise have a wonderful Christmas. There will be a drop-off bin the Powell front office. All gift donations should be made by Friday, December 8 to ensure gifts are delivered in time.
Different organizations reach out to Powell Elementary to assist our students and families with items for the holidays. Please let us know if you would welcome assistance and would be willing for Mrs. Nixon, our counselor, to call or email you if an organization volunteers to donate this year. In the past we have had organizations offer to donate food, clothing, and toys to our families in need. If you are interested in receiving assistance, please email Mrs. Nixon at email@example.com or call her at 936-709-1700.
Lost and Found
Please have your children collect their things from the Lost and found located on the stage in the cafeteria. All unclaimed items will be donated on December 15th.
Note from the Attendance Clerk
We are having an increase in unexcused absences and need your help to make sure this trend does not continue. Please make sure you are contacting the school every day your child is absent. Contact can be made by phone 936-709-1700, or by email to our attendance clerk at firstname.lastname@example.org with the reason for the student’s absence. Without correspondence your child’s absence will be marked as unexcused.
If your child sees a physician, we ask that you bring in a doctor’s note upon your child’s return to school. If you are interested in more information about Conroe ISD attendance guidelines, please refer to the Elementary School Handbook, pages 15-17.

Nominations opened October 2, 2017 for Conroe ISD’s Gifted and Talented program. Nominations can be made by the parents and/or teachers. All students can be nominated for the GT screener. However, it is recommended that parents of Kindergarten and 1st grade students wait until 2nd grade. The nomination form can be sent to school with your child or emailed to the Assistant Principal, Sarah Radord at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Powell PTO depends on volunteers like you to help make the year a success. There are many ways to help throughout the year – big and small! Signing up does not commit you to anything. You will be added to our volunteer database where you will learn about the various ways you can help throughout the year.
Please remember to complete the Volunteer Background Check at the bottom of the page to be able to volunteer at our school!
PTO has the following positions available this year: VP of Membership, Carnival Co-Chairs, Silent Auction Chairperson, Room Mom Liaison, Spirit Store Coordinator and Staff Appreciation Chairperson.
Volunteer Background Check
All volunteers in our school must complete the CISD Volunteer Background Check. This includes classroom readers, party volunteers, field trip chaperones and event volunteers. You can complete the free background check here. https://apps.conroeisd.net/volunteer/
Please sign up for a Parent Access account (PAC) if you have not done so already. This account will allow you to receive announcements, newsletters, safety information, absence and tardy notifications and other important updates. Throughput the year, you can log in to view grades, report cards, discipline records, cafeteria accounts and STAAR scores. If you registered for an account last year, you will not need to re-register for an account this year. To register, please visit https://www.conroeisd.net/parents/
Due to problems with our online school calendar, we are including a list of upcoming events.
