This is a great opportunity to talk to your children about how harmful drugs can be. The daily dress up themes serve to raise awareness of the importance of living a drug-free life. See the attachment for the themes for the week.

Carnival Powell families, teachers and staff, we have chosen a date for our 2018-19 school year carnival. Kindly mark your calendars for Saturday April 13, 2019 from 2-6pm. PTO will be sending out information on sponsorship opportunities soon as we have had a significant amount of inquiries from parents. We are extremely excited about our carnival and have about 6 months of planning and preparation ahead of us. If there are any family members who would like to volunteer their time please email Abbie and Jessica at the following email address email@example.com.
There will be plenty of opportunities before, during and after the carnival where the PTO could definitely use some help.
Boxtops for Education Our school will be doing box top collections during the month of October. The dates will be Mon Oct 1 through Fri Oct 26. Nominations for Gifted & Talented Testing Nominations are now open for Conroe Independent School District Gifted and Talented program. Although the testing will not take place until February, nominations are accepted at this time. Nominations can be made by the parents and/or teachers. It is recommended that parents of 2nd grade students wait until CogAT scores have arrived before nominating their child because CogAT scores are part of the GT assessment. If you are interested in nominating your child, you may want to discuss this with your childs teacher at conferences. Nominations will be accepted through December 18. You may request a nomination form from Erin Anderson at firstname.lastname@example.org. You can also find the nomination form and other GT information on the CISD GT homepage.
Parent Workshop Collin Kartchner is coming to Texas on October 24 at the Nancy Bock Center of Performing Arts Auditorium (at McCullough Jr High School), 3800 Panther Creek Drive at 7pm.
Founder of the nationwide movements #SavetheKids and #SavetheParents, Collin Kartchner is an internet crusader, youth advocate, and social activist spreading education and awareness nationwide on the negative effects of social media and screen addiction on our mental and emotional health. His ability to connect with young people as well as to their parents empowers us to rethink the way we use our phones, and how we connect to each other. He specifically focuses on how the correlation between teen social media and screen-time addiction relates to the epidemic spike in teen anxiety, depression, and suicide. Collin raised $100ks for Hurricane Harvey victims last year, and will be in the Houston area only two nights (Katy Oct 23 and The Woodlands Oct 24). This is a life-changing event not to be missed. Come early to get a seat.
