Note from Mrs. Garrison: Thanks for attending Doughnuts with Dudes! We love having dads and dudes in the building. Today your children practiced safety drills. The drills we practiced were lockout, lockdown, severe weather and fire. The teachers went over the drills with their students, and then we practiced as a whole school. Everyone did an awesome job ensuring that we are safe in the event of an emergency.
Clinic Happenings from Nurse Jean:
Friendly Reminders from Nurse Jean:
- September is Head Lice Awareness Month. As a general rule, please check your child routinely for head lice and nits (lice eggs).
- As cold and flu season approaches, please encourage your child to wash their hands frequently throughout the day and consider flu vaccinations for the entire family. These are great ways to prevent illness due to flu virus.
Please don’t hesitate to call the clinic if you have any questions. Our direct number is 936-709-1709.
PTO News: The Powell PTO depends on volunteers like you to help make the year a success. There are many ways to help throughout the year – big and small! Signing up does not commit you to anything. You will be added to our volunteer database where you will learn about the various ways you can help throughout the year.
Please remember to complete the Volunteer Background Check at the bottom of the page to be able to volunteer at our school! http://powellpto.com/volunteer1.html
PTO has the following positions available this year: VP of Membership, Carnival Co-Chairs, Silent Auction Chairperson, Room Mom Liaison, Spirit Store Coordinator and Staff Appreciation Chairperson.
Yearbooks on Sale:Â Powell yearbooks are now on sale! Currently, they are $30 and available here with free icons when you personalize your child’s yearbook. Lastly, 4th grade yearbook ads are on sale until November 30. Price is dependent on the size ad you purchase. Please visit here to submit your ad online. If you have any questions, please email Beki Smith at email@example.com
Library Volunteers:Â We had a WONDERFUL group of volunteers in the library last year, and we are excited about having another great year of help and support. Volunteers are essential to our library program because our librarian works alone without an aide. If you would like to volunteer in the Powell library, please fill out the online form here.
Volunteer Background Check:Â All volunteers in our school must complete the CISD Volunteer Background Check. This includes classroom readers, party volunteers, field trip chaperones and event volunteers. You can complete the free background check here.
Parent Access:Â Please sign up for a Parent Access account (PAC) if you have not done so already. This account will allow you to receive announcements, newsletters, safety information, absence and tardy notifications and other important updates. Throughout the year, you can log in to view grades, report cards, discipline records, cafeteria accounts and STAAR scores. If you registered for an account last year, you will not need to re-register for an account this year. To register please visit here.
TWHS 5th Quarter: Come to Alden Bridge Chick-Fil-A after the game on Friday, September 22 from 10:00 p.m. until 12:00 a.m. to enjoy some late night snacks and fun for everyone! A percentage of the sales will go back to The Woodlands High School Quarterback Club.
TWHS Highstepper Dance Clinic: The Woodlands High School Highsteppers are having a Dance clinic October 14 from 8:00a.m. – 12:00p.m. The camp will be held on TWHS campus and is open to children in grades K-8. Cost of the clinic is $60. Registration is open here.
TWHS Fall Cheer Clinic: It is Football season and this is a great opportunity for your students to join in our spirit! This cheer clinic is for children 4 years old to 8th grade and will give these young athletes an opportunity to train and cheer alongside the TWHS cheer squad. Children will learn a cheer, a chant, a dance, will work on jumps and stunt skills and will get to perform with the JV cheerleaders at a TWHS football game. There will be a “SHOW OFF” after the clinic and your child will get to be in the middle of the pep rally. See the attached flyer for more information.
