Clinic Happenings from Nurse Jean:

Friendly Reminders from Nurse Jean:

  • What’s going around: general allergy symptoms – no fever, sore throat, congestion, headache
  • Students must be fever free for 24 hours without the aid of Tylenol or Mortin in order to return to school.
  • As a general rule, please remember to periodically check your child for lice and nits (lice eggs)

Book Fair Volunteers: We are in need of volunteers for the book fair October 10-13. The book fair cannot operate without help from parents. This is a really fun event for the students and earns money and books for the school library! Please sign up to volunteer!

PTO News: The Powell PTO depends on volunteers like you to help make the year a success. There are many ways to help throughout the year – big and small! Signing up does not commit you to anything. You will be added to our volunteer database where you will learn about the various ways you cna help throughout the year.

Please remember to complete the Volunteer Background Check to be able to volunteer at our school!

PTO has the following positions available this year: VP of Membership, Carnival Co-Chairs, Silent Auction Chairperson, Room Mom Liaison, Spirit Store Coordinator and Staff Appreciation Chairperson.


Yearbooks on Sale: Powell yearbooks are now on sale! Currently they are $30 and are available with free icons when you personalize your child’s yearbook. Lastly, 4th grade yearbook ads are on sale until November 30. Price is dependent on the size of the ad you purchase. Please submit your ad online. Please remember that ads are for 4th graders only.

Parent Workshop Series: Join us for our next parent workshop series, Cyber Safety at Colson Tough Elementary on October 26 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. The workshop is presented by The Conroe ISD Police and Technology department. Topics will include

  • Setting up passwords
  • setting up filters and permissions on home routers
  • What to look  for on your child’s phone and how to detect photo vaults
  • Brief overview on the different types of Apps and sites kids are using
  • Privacy settings on various applications


Nominations for Gifted and Talented Testing: Nominations open October 2, 2017 for Conroe ISD’s Gifted and Talented program. Nominations can be made by the parents and/ or teachers. All students can be nominated for the GT screener. However, it is recommended that parents of Kindergarten and 1st grade students wait until 2nd grade. Nominations will be accepted through December 20, 2017, and testing will be on campus in February with results coming back to us in May. The nomination formpdf can be sent to school with your child or emailed to the Assistant Principal, Sarah Radford, at


Volunteer Background Check: All volunteer sin our school must complete the free CISD Volunteer Background Check.This includes classroom readers, party volunteers, field trip chaperones and event volunteers.


Parent Access: Please sign up for a Parent Access account (PAC) if you have not done so already. This account will allow you to receive announcements, newsletters, safety information, absence and tardy notifications and other important updates. Throughout the year, you can log in to view grades, report cards, discipline records, cafeteria accounts and STAAR scores. If you registered for an account last year, you will not need to re-register for an account this year.


CISD Coat Drive: Conroe ISD Police department is hosting its 15th annual Coats for Kids Drive. We will be accepting new or gently used (clean) coats, hoodies, and sweaters on our campus October 2 – October 16. Items may be dropped off in the front office. During last year’s Coats for Kids drive, CISD Police collected and distributed 1400 coats, jackets and hoodies. Coats from this year’s drive will be ready for disbursement the week of October 30.


TWHS Highstepper Dance Clinic: The Woodlands High School Highsteppers are having a Dance clinic October 14 from 8:00a.m. – 12:00p.m. The camp will be held on TWHS campus and is open to children in grades K-8. Cost of the clinic is $60. Registration is open


TWHS Fall Cheer Clinic: It is Football season and this is a great opportunity for your students to join in our spirit! This cheer clinic is for children 4 years old to 8th grade and will give these young athletes an opportunity to train and cheer alongside TWHS cheer squad. The clinic is Saturday, October 21. Children will learn a cheer, a chant, a dance, will work on jumps and stunt skills and will get to perform with the JV cheerleaders at a TWHS football game. There will be a “SHOW OFF” after the clinic and your child will get to be in the middle of the pep rally. See the attached flyer for more information.
